Treat yourself to a taste of France this March at an evening of French music, wine and cheese, hosted by the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra.

A French-themed classical music concert is taking place at St Margaret’s Church on Queen’s Road, Ilkley on Saturday 24th March at 7pm. The theme will continue into the interval where a selection of French produce will be on offer for the audience to sample, including wine, cheeses and bread from different regions across France.

“A number of local businesses have kindly helped to support our charity’s concert and we are pleased to be bringing the orchestra to Ilkley for this special event” says Keiron Anderson, the leader of Creative Arts at Ilkley Grammar School, who directs the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra.

The regional orchestra is made up of semi-professional and quality amateur woodwind, brass and percussion players, many of whom live and work within the North Leeds area.

Due to the nature of the event, advanced ticket booking is advised. Tickets are available from the Grove Bookshop music department and online at www.yorkshirewinds.co.uk, priced £14, £11 (concessions) and £8 (students and under 16s) and include interval refreshments.]]>

We gave him a drink of water and Ashlands Vets came and picked him up. He had a red collar on but no details.

He was very big but friendly. We named him Bob. Bobeta if it's a girl. Photo of him/ her here: https://twitter.com/#!/ilkley_more/statu...262312013825/photo/1

Such a lovely dog. I hope he/she is micro-chipped.]]>

My inexpert reading is a change of use from retail to food outlet and the size of the unit changing to include the concourse outside the old ticket office. Wondered if anyone has any info or idea about who or what may be coming to grace the town? Not sure we need too many more cafes?

PS. Mrs Dun Lurkin is very excited about Phase 8 clothing coming to the Grove, time to lock up the flexible friend me thinks!]]>

Apart from the cats and rats, there are two cliché-ridden football commentators, a bossy Mayor’s daughter who sings a tongue-twisting competitor for the title of the world’s fastest-ever song and a pair of villainous rat-catchers who dance a show-stopping tango. Among a dozen other songs is a celebration of the delights - and disadvantages - of swallowing Cascara, and there's a funk finale with a chorus that’s a useful life motto for rats and humans alike: ‘Don’t Eat The Green Wobbly Bit’!”

The scriptwriter, composer, director and choreographer are all Ilkley people and the cast are all Ilkley GS students, but while it may be a student production, the acting, the sets and costumes, the acting, the songs and dance routines, and the lighting and sound are all absolutely professional quality. Tickets from Grove Bookshop, Tourist Info or the school. Don't miss it - it's probably the first world premiere in Ilkley since "A Private Function". Let us know what you think!]]>

Given the bashing that Tripadvisor has had recently, I wondered if anyone could recommend a decent hotel, situated somewhere reasonably central, that is worthy of consideration? Given that the Metro wasn't even on the drawing board when I last went, we need all the help we can get.

Thanks in anticipation ]]>

Does anyone have any news regarding Optimeyes Opticians on Cunliffe Road in Ilkley? The last few times I have tried to visit, it has been closed with a note on the door advising 'back on Saturday'. This appears to have been the same note since I have been trying to go in, which seems bizarre.

I have attempted to enquire via their website also, however this appears to have been removed.

Regards.
