Yes The Grove is set to re-open, I don't know any of the details as yet, or even the new name if their is to be one, the new restauranteers are local lads, one has worked at The Yard I believe.
They say that when they entered the premises to begin renovation, the fridges were still switched on and filled with (rotted) food, and the cellar stock hadn't even been cleared.

Tables were still laid with their place settings and wine glasses.
Good luck to the newbies!

So 'local lads' can lay their hands on "£56k rent + business rates + stock + fitting out + wages, etc"
Strewth .... and there was I thinking that there was some sort of recession at present.
So, how does one set about becoming one of these 'local lads' I say, where do they meet up n all?
And when will they be putting in their liquor license application?

Curious that The Grove and Bar 59 (or whatever the number is)next door but one seem to be both being revived at the same time. Lazarus seems to be doing well hereabouts. Perhaps The Hide will be the next to creak into action?
Ah So, Dr Watson, my supposition about The Hide turns out to be correct and Lazarus is indeed that irrepressible Andy Longman of Suburban Style Bar fame. He couldn't pollute The Grove so now he's lowered his sights just a little - and what opening hours does he propose this time?
A persistent liitle chappie, Mr Longman. We will have to hope he has deep pockets to match his thick Hide?

They should rename the place Marie Celeste! I heard the candles on the tables were still lit!
Pete the ex manager of the Yard and The Malt is one of the new cats.
Looks like The Yard is going to get some competition!

They must be expecting quite a footfall to clear £56k rent & all other business costs on this basis! Who the hell interrogates business plans before offering lending?!

Could I perchance have missed the license application? What hours of opening have been applied for? Will there be different hours for outside drinking on the decked area?
Am I just getting cynical in my dotage or could this be a change of function, from restaurant to bar, by stealth? A limited menu (tapas) in the evening to 'disguise' the intended change of use? I can't imagine that the residents of the old town hall are relishing the prospect?

There was something in the gazbag about the new licences for the various new bars which mentioned a 10 o'clock curfew on outside drinking and outside furniture useage.

Rang the Licencing people in Bradford yesterday. They have no record of any application!!
When an application is submitted a Blue notice will appear on the building giving locals 28 days to object. Does this mean they cannot be opening soon or have I and the Council missed something?

I'm pretty sure that The Grove has not been acquired by a local branch of the Temperance League so some chancer must be bankrolling a pretty sizeable gamble. There will be plenty of watchful eyes awaiting the appearance of that licensing application notice, possibly including She Who Sells Shoes at Schuberts Shoe Shop? How about having to recite that for a purchase requirement? Anyone 'shelling shoes' after a couple of drinks to be denied any more alcohol?

Well, The Grove continues to be a hive of activity, lots of busy bees beavering away, though I'm not sure that they look to be accredited to any recognisable building/shopfitting organisation.
So the continuing absence of a licensing application is very intriguing. Perhaps its going to be a private club run by a very philanthropic owner? I would think about applying except that, as Groucho Marx famously said ...................

Hmm how strange Jasper! Are you poised to lodge an objection?
The people working on the building are the owners and staff that are going to run the place, they're not builders, but they look to be doing a good job.
