Has anyone else been experiencing delays getting parcels delivered by Royal Mail?

I found a few quid down the back of the sofa so I decided to spend it on the interweb.

So I bought stuff, got my despatch notes to say the items have been sent out by first class and I waited. Expecting the items to arrive the next day or maybe the day after that at the latest.
But it seems first class now means 5 days or you have to get it yourself.

The first package took about 4 days. With the last package I bought I had to go to the sorting office and ask if there was anything there for me. I hadn't been carded, but the people I bought it off asked me to check. Low and behold the package was there! When I enquired as to why I hadn't been carded the man replied "err, it was due for delivery today" lier lier your pants are on fire!
I didn't say that, but I wish I had.

So I'm now waiting for my 3rd item, which on Monday will be the 6th working day since I got my despatch note. Is there any point in paying for 1st class anymore!? I might as well just pay for 3-5 day delivery.

Maybe it's just me and my bad luck when it comes to internet shopping.

Anyone else experiencing delays? Answers on a post card

Yes, it's happened to me, last week. Three things were delayed. Messages from Amazon and ebay in two cases assured me that they would arrive early one week. It was the following Tuesday, after I'd contacted the suppliers, that they both arrived, together with some strawberry plants that had been nearly a fortnight in transit, which they didn't appreciate.

Interesting you should mention this, Woza. A friend was complaining of exactly the same problem only this week.
Apparently, small parcels are the lowest priority of all, and just get left in the delivery office until someone can be bothered to move them.
They say they have someone working to clear the backlog, but they obviously aren't trying very hard.
I suggest you all complain on www.royalmail.com or wherever. enough complaints, and they will have to do something.
Royal mail is well screwed these days.

hmmm. sore point at this house as well.
twice this week someones been in at home,(well once in garden!) when a delivery card has appeared in box saying non-delivery of parcel go to delivery place on cowpasture rd.timed on card at 11.59 saturday morning(the sorting office closes at 11.30!)please allow 3 hours before trying to get parcel.
postie didnt knock/shout or anything, just left the card in box.
when hubby saw postie walking back down path next day and asked where the parcel was that supposedly couldn't be delivered was told "its here on the bike".they hadn't even tried to deliver it.
when he said "well it's a birthday pressie that was special next day delivery " the reply was...."well shes got it now" 3 days after the event.
needless to say he's not chuffed at all.

We got a letter today from Royal Mail apologising about delays in deliveries. It seems that a R.M employee has been witholding deliveries.
Also goes on to explain that R.M is holding enquiries about this behaviour.
Oddly enough a friend of my mums in Burley has had the same kind of letter, through today as well.

Wonder if it's the same RM employee who was signing for letters that were recorded delivery and posting them through our letter box, also leaving a parcel that required signing for on full display on our doorstep. We wrote and complained and the aforementioned RM employee knocked on our door and was quite stroppy with me about why we'd complained.Unfortunately Mr Eliza wasn't at home or he'd have given him a good talking to. I'm rubbish at that sort of thing.

I'm going to waste a bit of brass and send a parcel to myself.
Will report back what happens.

Did something of the same a while back. Posted a sheet of
heavy card in an envelope on which the words said
- DO NOT BEND - and what did postie do?
The bent it!

It would appear the sorting office in Ilkley is in complete meltdown!
Last week I received a huge pile of old letters and a letter from Royal Mail to say my mail had been hijacked! They we're sorry but the matter had been dealt with.
Then I'm still waiting for my 3rd parcel, which I mentioned earlier in this thread and now I've not had any post in 3 days (which is unheard of)! I'm missing my daily offer to get my windows and doors changed for free and cheaper car insurance!

If I go up to the sorting off today and find my parcel is sat there I'll blow a nut. I'll blow 2 nuts if he tells me it was out for delivery today, again!

Why is it so difficult to send something to someone else in this country. I'm not even going to get started on the courier companies! I'll be here all day!

Woza, I used to send letters and parcels to friends in Bude, Cornwall, via Boston, USA. It took at the longest five days.

They, in Bude, did the same. It all started with a letter from Bude to Boston they put in the wrong envelope, it should have been Bude to Ilkley. I never received the one which should have gone the other way.

By supposed Royal Mail anything from three weeks to infinity.

I had someone post a small parcel to me from Otley the day after the last post on imore.com. It was a wee bit narrower than a standard letter box. Am still waiting.

HIGH FIVE fellow forumers! We finally got recognition for all the stories that Newsquest poach from these pages! Read em and weep peep!

'bout time the gazbag gave us something back, they're sitting on 150 years of Ilkley history in those offices, instead of pinching our threads they should be getting all that stuff online!

I'd far rather see £8k of taxpayers money spent on that rather than getting .org up to speed.

Quote me u gazbag news poaching dudes!!!
