I was talking to IMOR about doing something with, or around, the hymn On Ilkley Moor Bah tat is based on. I have done a bit of googling and for my sake I going to stick the links on here

It is called Cranbrook (a village in Kent I was driven through only a week ago) by Thomas Clark.

It was easy to find stuff about Clark, and the fact you can sing While shepherds watched their flock by night to the tune; but the original lyrics was a lot harder. Finally found them on this wiki page. It is actually quite odd trying to sing the correct words.

Sounds an interesting project. What are you thinking of doing?

The seed of the idea is IMOR's so I'll not spray my water on that, but in general terms it is about sorting something to celebrate The song that made mi Ilkley famous (I just thought of that! In case you don't get it it's like the title of a c&w standard about beer).

Cranbrook is about the same size as Ilkley and seemed rich and isolated from the little I saw. Clerk seems like a man worth celebrating as well (his gravestone has gone).

I want to have on Ilkey Moor Bah Tat at my Priestley Night, piping in the meat and potato pie, but am not sure whether to try and get a cornet player, or just force people to sing it.

Thoughts?

I have less than no money at the moment, but if anyone knows a trumpeter who will work for pie than it might be possible.

It would also be nice to have some other chance to sing the song, or the song and the hymn, somewhere in Ilkley. White Wells, with a hat throwing competition as well?

One of the things Horticulturists are good at is sowning seeds. It's upto the gardeners to bring them into the light. To make life easier for the latter turn to rombaldsrover.blogspot.com and learn more about Clark of Canterbury and Cranbrook.
