I have not read anything that they have written for weeks, and will not be starting now; but I became fascinated in the life of this thread; and I am still interested in why it has had so many hits.

The hit counter isn't an accurate measurement of how many views the topic has had. This is because 'hits' count everything and more than once. If I was to load up the topic and hit refresh 100 times the hit count would go up 100 times.
It also registers search index bots, which happens a lot on this site, because the content changes often.
It's pointless and something I've pointed out to the developers of the forum software.
A lot of web site owners will use hits to make their site sound more popular than it is *chough*ilkley. org*chough*.

Although this topic has been very popular it's not been as popular as the hit counter makes out.

If your really interested since this topic started on the 26th of Jan it has recieved 1308 pageviews, 1259 of them are unique page views. That is spread across all pages of the topic. In comparison, the second most viewed topic since Jan 1st 2010 is Ilkley PCSO is gun freak with 535 unique pageviews.

The most popular topic ever is Ilkley credit crunch barometer with 4694 pageviews, 1974 of them are unique page views.

So yes, this thread is popular, great for im.com, possibly not so great for WMG. But then they do say their is no such thing as bad publicity!?

I may be wrong, I'm not an investigative reporter nor nothink, but I think Mick O'B painter and decorator is behind this new venture, he's not a trained journo.

Good effort getting the infrastructure in place, but how about getting out there and finding some actual news?

I'd lose the alter egos on here if I was associated with the venture though, unless like me you lost your profile password in some weird facebook twinning freak wrong button pressing accident.

It's a very odd business strategy, insulting potential viewers.

Well I know it is not the work of IMOR (he says he can nolonger get on here to post and has found other ducks to feed). It could be mcnab under other names; or it could be a few lads with enthusiasm but no experience, and not enough sense, yet.

Providing a news service is labour intensive, and is one of the services most likely to attacked if it makes mistakes, of any kind.

As woza points out, it is possible to make all sorts of claims for a website that most people can not challenge; and that may mean the site can be used to sell all sorts of other things, including themselves as web developers.

On the other hand, if they want to sell themselves to the news industry they need to make a much better site; and could really do with stopping now, and relaunching when they have a good enough service; including enough news gathering resources to justify visiting it. There is a massive amount of good advice on here, enough to improve all parts of the site; and that despite some of the really childish posts.
