Rant time!

Is anyone els fed up of the roads in Ilkley?

I drive around Otley, Guiseley, Burly, Addingham, Yeadon, all fine, but soon as you get off the main road into Ilkley, you may aswell be off roading!

Ok, I dont have a 4x4 and prob dont have the best set up for the roads having low profile tires but still, I dont expect to be knocking myself out when on my roof while travelling on the back roads. One imparticular bad one (Ben Rhydding Road)
Yes, if you see me driving down the centre of the road, its not because I want the whole road to myself, its because I want my suspension intact and the pannels that keep me warm in my little car to stay on!
However I will move over if I see you

Totally gets me wound up!!

Is it just me?

Roads on the north side of the river (sunny side of town) seem in better repair than others - why is that?

There is certainly a difference in the state of repair of Leeds roads vs those looked after by Bratf'd.

Choochin, while your low profile boots may well result in lower-back issues in later life, I can tell you that having a 4x4 doesn't protect aganst pot-hole misery...Mrs O and her Freelander (ok, not an Ilkley 4x4) vanished down a cavernous pot hole on the stretch between the Moor Valley caravan site and Hawkwsworth crossroads this week: cue a narrowly avoided 3-vehicle pile-up and a hole in the tyre wall large enough to accommodate a Ye Olde Oak ham! And a huuuuuuuge recovery / repair bill.

Watch out for the "bump" on Leeds Road, at the bottom of Victoria Avenue. I hit it full on and thought I'd broke my car in two!

Yes Oggit, Moor Valley always gets bad with bad weather, I do know to watch that one! I love how they patch it up and a week later its there again!
We can send rockets to the moon but to keep a road nice and smooth seems somewhat impossible!

Woza, Victoria Ave is horendous, I have not come accross the one on Leeds road yet I will watch for that, thanks.

Yes the sunny side is a bit better still room for improvement I feel.

It should be put to the council and I will look into how you do that, afterall its what we pay for!

Thanks guys

There was a man in Ben Rhydding today spray painting white boxes around potholes. Is he

a) practising a new form of lateral graffitti?
b) a right weirdo?
c) something to do with getting them repaired?

If (c) then how come he has to go round first??? Surely a pothole is fairly evident to a pothole repairer? They must see hundreds of them daily. Why do they need white boxes around them?

The white boxes are to show that they've been spotted. If someone was to have an accident regarding one of those potholes and try make a claim against the council they can get out of it if they can show they knew about the pothole and are going to fix it.

I think. I got this info from a TV show so I could be wrong haha.

Spotting pot-holes and fixing them are two seperate things. As JoJo has intimated, the white boxes indicate the council have inspected the area and identified the faults. The pot hole repair will occur in due course.

They need to do this to avoid legal action in the event of an injury.

But seeing the white markings are not dated on the road then what stops them just making marks and nowt else; apart from IMOR, and IMOR like people taking photos that a complaints authority would accept?

I am sure if there was ways of checking if road repairs are are done, within a set time of holes being marked, then parasitic, scum sucking, stain of satan lawyers would find it, if it was worth their while, but greedy people not chocking their own ladders whilst drilling concrete are so easy to find they probably do not have to do any actual work.

There again: this thread is as public a domain as I can think of, so will someone please post when the pots are fixed?

And if you check your facts WMG, Owler Park Road is in fact a private/unadopted road and therefore not maintained by BMDC in any shape nor form. (Incidentally, so is Ben Rydding Drive!)

Ha ha the white markings, well I nearly went round with a tin of paint myself seen as they missed quite a few!!!
Patch ups! Good grief, we live in Ilkley, we pay astronomical council tax and all they can do is leave great big holes in the road for two weeks before they remember to come back and fill them in!

What a do! Can we not in this day and age have a smooth road after all we do pay for it!

Im off to buy a hummer, i might not feel the craters as much in that!

Don't get too excited BUT.. theres strange bigger squarer bits of road been taken from around the white boxes on Bolling Rd,they made the holes neater and bigger! I think they MIGHT be going to fill them in...sometime!( but maybe not the one they missed at the top of Manley.lol)
I hope they do,soon, because if not theres gonna be a few collisions where cars swerve round the bigger holes onto the opposite side of the road.and dont seem to see the cars in the opposite direction
