I see from this week's Gusset that Andy Longman, of the Suburban "Style" Bar empire, has applied for planning permission for various bits of signage at 14 The Moors Shopping Centre, where Hide and Escape used to be.

Can't wait. Have had the pleasure of his pub in Otley (imaginativly named Drinkers Delight). At least 3 big screens showing differant sports, lots of outdoor fag space, cheap beer promotions and faint smell of stale fat - bring it on

Just what the slow movers and shakers of Ilkley have been demanding!

Ah, those elegant ladies and gentlemen who reside at Listers Court just across the road.........
I bet they will be looking forward so much to this invasion of beer-swillers and to the raucus noise of the footers chants and to the full-volumed Santana Sports tellies belting out their commentaries.... as well as to being shouldered aside as the vest-clad, tatooo-sporting, head-shaven brigade rush outside for their cancer-inducing ciggy breaks. Life has been much too quiet of late, what fun they will have.
Good old Andy Longman, Ilkley's one-man-recession-cruncher. Expect to see him, Eileen at the front row at the Craiglands do. Vouchers, two-for ones, cheap offers, 'Happy Hours', freebies.....been there, done 'em all & so much more.
As for those greedy supermarkets, Andy hates them ..... see his comments on his Drinkers Den (Suburban Style Bars) website. After all, they try to sell booze cheaper than he can. So, Ilkley is double-blessed. We also have a new leder for IRATE..... Tesco will be all a tremble & in need of a drink.
Our cup overfloweth.... (and not long before the blood & guts wil be flowing either!)

I don't know what it is Jasper, but I seem to get a funny feeling that you have a dislike for Mr Longman!?
Can't quite put my finger on it but I'm thinking that may be the case.....

I am sure he is a nice chap but if there was a club to join for people who dislike what his business stand's for then it can have my subs.

Not at all dear chap! As long as Mr Logman is constantly on hand, together with hose and brush & shovel to sweep up & swill away the blood & guts I will be more than delighted to see him elevated to a high position in Ilkley!

I wonder if Mr Longman knows there used to be a club just across the road at the former Listers Arms. Madams. Those of a certain age may just remember it. If nowt else more pedestrian traffic in that area may save my veg shop from hitting the compost heap of small businesses.

Welcome to i-more.com.
Have to agree with you about The Yard. I find it's present form claustrophobic. Much prefered it when it was an upholsterer.
At least he didn't charge the earth for coffee and his letuce and dahlias were some of the best in town.

It will be nice to see these new businesses opening up in Ilkley, they (Style ? and whatever the Grove is to be called ) are just the sort we like are they not ? Independantly owned, local bars/restarants for local people etc ?
Hats off to them really, they are opening up in difficult times, it will take reak hard work and imagination to make them go. Let's hope they do better than that other local restauranteer, David Wooley.

Great staff are fundamental to a succesful business. Get that young manager (i think her name was Harriet) back. She held the place together for the last weeks of The Hide. Warm / friendly with great ideas.
I do NOT declare an interest by the way!
