The debate over the ilkley bandstand will probably go on for many years to come! Once named the most expensive skateboard ramp in the country, until that is, the council put their foot down and told the little devils to bugger off!

So the blue structure remains empty and lifeless for the majority of the time! Although I did hear the dulcet tones of a band on there a few Saturdays ago. They might go their every Saturday, (I wouldn’t know as I don’t tend to venture very far on a Saturday) but from what I gather it’s pretty much empty for most of the year!

So what did the council think the bandstand would bring to Ilkley? Maybe it complements the flowers? Nah! Or could it be its sheer beauty brings people from all over the world to marvel in its glory? Nah! Could it be to waste council money to get a bigger budget for the following year! Now who would think a thing like that?!?!
Or was it so they could ‘legitimately’ tell locals they couldn’t afford to build something worthwhile. Like……. a skate board park! Who knows?!!?

So it stands there not doing much, the skateboarders have been told to move on, currently residing in the car park! Nice and safe that!!??
But wait! Did I notice in the hot blazing sunshine a few weeks ago the beginnings of a skate park?!?!!? Or what is just a concrete slab for small children to fall over and hurt themselves on?!!?!? Could the council of hidden it away any better!?!?!? You Decide!

People will continue to make their own minds up about the infamous bandstand. As yet I’ve not heard a single person defend the structure! Maybe someone would like to post something in its defence!?

Something tells me we could have a long wait…..

Woza;

With regards to the lack of action at the bandstand...surely that is less of a reflection on the council and more of a reflection on the lacklustre performing ambition of the locals.

If you look at ilkley on the whole, the facilities are pretty good, and I think the bandstand in theory is a great nexus for performances. Perhaps it could be improved by actually providing a notice of how to book a slot to perform in the bandstand.

I know that there is some real musical talent in the area and the stand should aim to get as much of it showcased as possible.

I can't find any info on how to book the bandstand!??!
There is some info on how to get info on the annual report or accounts info:
J D Shaw, Belbrook,
Burley Lane,
Menston,

LS29 6EH
Tel:01943 874318

Does anyone know, does anyone care?? If so let us know otherwise I might have to email Bradford council! They'll probably tell me to get lost as I've slagged it off!!!
