I would reccomend;
Les Yeux Sans Visage, Once Upon a Time in America, Letter to Brezhnev, Belleville Rendezvous, Blood Simple, The Big Lebowski, Heimat, Seven Samurai, Bleak House (BBC TV series) & Taxi Driver. For starters.

Interestingly (or not) there is an ilkley connection with Funland, the very good BBC series about the seedy underbelly of..er.. Blackpool.

The Last King of Scotland
The Science of Sleep

Oh yes - The Last King of Scotland - very good, though my nipples will never feel the same again!

Two days in Paris was very funny too.

With Squiffy Manor having been the location of many a period drama, The Brigadier has become something of a film buff himself. Many's the time the Manor has been teaming with buxom wenches in period costume, bosoms heaving as they frolic and romp with the Lord of the Manor. (Of course I tell them to leave when the film crews arrive)

I would heartily recommend anything by the Coen Brothers as a stsrting point to anyone's film education. Also Control - story of Ian Curtis of Joy Division.

What's the ilkley connection with Funland then? (Well someone had to ask). Sarah Smart is high on my 'Would' list. Cheryl Campbell is an ex-number one on the list and is still bubbling under.
